Fihalhohi Resort Hotel

Situated approximately 28km from Male International Airport, making it just a 60 minute speedboat ride to the hotel once you’re off the plane, Fihalhohi Resort is a truly stunning part of the world. Luscious green palm trees are surrounded by warm sandy beaches and a carefully preserved crystal clear lagoon.

Fihalhohi has a superb natural feel, 24 palm-thatched villas are scattered about the resort offering both privacy and comfort as well as just 114 comfort rooms on this island resort. A choice of two restaurants and bars means there is plenty of choice for food, beverages and entertainment. Fihalhohi may be a 3* resort, but this is three star in Maldives style, so you know you will still be holidaying in style.

An island that is so rich in adult palms and native trees, so very lush, is unusual. It is a visual treat as well as practical, for the shade the greenery offers the rooms is ideal for children to play in and for adults to relax in during the most burning heat of the day.

The white sand on Fiha remains as icing sugar because it has not succumbed to the pumping of sand from one part of the beach to another. The size of the beach has fallen slightly over the years, and some breakwaters have been built to prevent erosion. There are still more than enough beach to be enough for everyone, but you may need to walk a minute, depending on where your room is, if you want a broad strip of beach to chill out.

Fihalhohi is the perfect chance to escape the modern world and unwind in this Maldivian paradise.

Fihalhohi Resort Hotel Review

In a quiet corner of South Malé Atoll Fihalhohi (“Fiha” for the initiated) continues to offer its services to more and more satisfied customers. Through long term cooperation with First Choice Holidays, and despite very limited marketing experience, this resort enjoys continuing success with the visitors who have discovered it and would recommend it to others.

Room standard has improved in recent years. All bungalows have nowadays, safe, hairdryer and refrigerator. Water Bungalows also offer opportunities to make coffee and CD players and maintains a much higher standard than other residents on the island. It may actually be that some of the water bungalows are among the most affordable in the Maldives. For this reason they do get fully booked fast.

The 114 Comfort Rooms are different from the 24 Classic Rooms only in the sense that they are slightly larger, has a bathtub and shower in addition to the air conditioning is included (in the Classic, you must pay extra for ac-control). Most Comfort rooms are also in buildings with 4 of each, 2 up and 2 down. The style is designed to get guests to relax, unpretentious and cosy, which is in line with the general mood on the island.

The 12 Water Bungalows are the most recently built rooms and the much higher standard than others. You sleep in a four-poster bed, very fitting in paradise, and can relax in comfortable chairs and sofas of high quality. There is plenty of room and a fresh bathroom with separate shower. The terrace belonging to the water bungalow consists of a large wooden deck in three parts: outside the bedroom, outside bathroom and a platform near the water. From there you can easily slip into the water for wonderful swimming and snorkelling.

The island is, relative to some of the luxury Maldives resorts, fairly densely built-up. Most tables in the restaurant are for four people and at meals there is the speed and excitement and elated mood at the buffet. The food is excellent with varied themes from different countries or style, simple but good. Another option is the Surf Café, a small, tranquil restaurant on the other side of the island. There is no possibility of so-called All Inclusive, but prices of both drinks are reasonable on Fiha compared to most other islands.

Surf Café is linked to the Blue Lagoon Bar and is placed next to the water sports on a nice beach to the west. For obvious reasons, all guests gather here at sunset. The bar is open until the last guest goes to bed, but this is still a quiet place, no music is played, as a conscious alternative to the Fisherman’s Bar, where something is going on every night.

The Two-week program at Fisherman’s Bar includes all the usual favorites from karaoke, to disco and live music. Some evenings can be continued until the wee hours, but people generally go to bed pretty early. The reasons for this are to be found in the number of families visiting Fiha, the generally calm atmosphere and the number of people who tire themselves out during the day with snorkeling and diving.

Fihalhohi have a fairly extensive excursion programs and distance from Male (about 50 minutes by boat) allows for half a day of shopping and sightseeing in the capital. An opportunity not to be missed, at least if you’re on a fortnight holiday in The Maldives.

The “House reef” close to the shoreline and along about two-thirds of the island’s perimeter and is very good. The nearby dive sites are good also, but who is on the other hand, atoll, and is available, are some of the best around Guraidhu, Kandooma and Cocoa. Whale shark and manta rays are common in the area from September to late December. The dive centere on Fihalholi, Ocean Venture, has great reputation and can help you with everything from snorkeling to all sorts of PADI diving education.

When you feel ready to cast the book aside and rip yourself away from the crystal clear water there is a spa, Sanctuary Spa, where they will fuss over you one or a few hours. Your skin may need a nice aloe vera treatment after a few too many hours in the sun?

The number of returning guests speak for themselves.

The clientele at Fiha is a glorious mix of Europeans, perhaps with a little overweight at the Germanic side. Fihalhohi is no typical honeymoon island, although many are celebrating their honeymoon here, but there is an appealing mix of people, not least because both snorkeling as diving is of high quality. A simple, well-kept resort a boat trip from Male, with warm and relaxed style.

The Fihalhohi resort is amazing and far surpasses anything I was expecting based on some of the reviews I had read and see in the book. We landed in Male and already our speedboat was waiting for us to take us straight to the resort and get our holiday started. The sand is a blinding white and the sea is just how you see paradise potrayed in books. Apparently Fihalhohi is a budget island resort in comparison to the rest of the Maldives but this went unnoticed by me, we were treated like visiting royalty and the surroundings are quite breathtaking.”

I would say my 14 nights in Fihalohi could be summed up as the time of my life. The weather was perfect for our entire stay, the water bungalows were gorgeous and the setting was just superb. We had planned on going elsewhere and a chance sighting of a deal to the Maldives tempted us to Fihalhohi but we are so glad we did – barely a cloud in sight, it was like something from a dream.”

We spent our honeymoon at Fiha in a water bungalow for 2 weeks. It was fantastic. The rooms were perfect every day, the island was kept immaculatley clean and all the staff couldnt be friendlier or do more to help. The food was varied and plentyfull, the scuba and snorkeling was great and the instructors if you need them are fantastic for first timers.
I cant wait to return to the island and use First choice again as they certainly looked after us well.

    Many thanks
